[STEP 1]Watch following News Footage carefully(Listen Carefully)

[STEP 2] Read the Passage below aloud with "오연속"

Tips ; Move your mouse pointer over the red numbers in the passage, then you can see the meaning of the expressions! Good Luck!

The scenes that sparked[각주:1] a global outcry[각주:2]. Cell phone video believed to be showing the Saudi blogger, Raif Badawi, getting lashed[각주:3] in January. Now, the 31-year-old is being awarded European parliament's Sakharov Human Rights Prize in recognition of[각주:4] his contribution[각주:5] to human rights[각주:6] and democracy[각주:7]

“In the case of Mr. Badawi, fundamental[각주:8] human rights are not only not being respected, they have been stepped on[각주:9]. So I would like to call on the king to stop the execution[각주:10] of the sentence and to release[각주:11] Mr. Badawi to allow him to go back to his wife and to allow him to travel here for the December session to receive this prize.”

Badawi was sentenced[각주:12] to a total of 1,000 lashes and 10 years in prison in 2012. His charges include cybercrime and insulting[각주:13] Islam through his Saudi Arabian Liberals website. He often blogged about free speech[각주:14] and the conservative[각주:15] kingdom. His first flogging[각주:16] sparked an international outcry. Saudi authorities[각주:17] suspended[각주:18] the punishment on medical ground. But hopes for leniency[각주:19] were dashed when the Saudi Arabian supreme court upheld[각주:20] his verdict[각주:21] in June. Speaking to me shortly after the case first came to public attention, Badawi’s wife had this message for Saudi Arabia's leadership.

“Raif did not do anything. Raif was not armed. Raif's weapon was just his pen.”

A pen that landed him behind bars but now may help raise more awareness[각주:22] about his cause[각주:23] for freedom of speech[각주:24] in his country.
